Ferrari shakes things up in performance hunt
Ferrari announced a shake-up in its technical team following its disappointing start to the Formula One season.
The team said in a statement Tuesday that Aldo Costa has stepped down as technical director ''to take on new responsibilities within the company.''
The team says the technical team has been restructured in three areas, with Pat Fry becoming the director for the chassis department, Corrado Lanzone in charge of production and Luca Marmorini continuing with electronics.
All three will report directly to Ferrari team principal Stefano Domenicali.
Ferrari has failed to win any of the opening five races this season.
Fernando Alonso is fifth in the drivers standings, 67 points behind leader Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull, and teammate Felipe Massa is eighth, 94 points back.
Domenicali called Sunday's Spanish Grand Prix the team's ''worst race of the season.'' Alonso finished fifth despite taking the lead at the start and Massa retired after sliding off the track while trying just to finish in the points.
The Monaco GP is next weekend.
