Check out qualifying results for FireKeepers Casino 400 at MIS

Joey Logano won the pole for Sunday’s FireKeepers Casino 400 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Michigan International Raceway. (FS1, 11:30 a.m. ET).

Logano, driver of the No. 22 Team Penske Ford, lapped the 2-mile MIS track at 199.557 miles per hour, tops among the 40 cars in the field.

“This feels really good because the last couple of weeks we’ve come in second in the final round,” said Logano, who won his second pole of the year and 16th of his Cup career. “We finally won the right round -- the last one.”

Qualifying on the outside of Row 1 was Martin Truex Jr., who turned a lap of 199.016 mph in the No. 78 Furniture Row Racing Toyota.

Starting from Row 2 will be Tony Stewart and Denny Hamlin, with Ryan Blaney and Ryan Newman on Row 3.

The start of qualifying was delayed approximately 15 minutes because a number of cars had issues getting through inspection before time trials.

As part of the new rules package being used this weekend, the use of rear-end skew, which helps create sideforce, is no longer permitted. And many cars had issues with that during pre-qualifying inspection, which slowed the proceedings, according to NASCAR senior vice president of competition Scott Miller.

The cars of Brad Keselowski, Michael Annett, Greg Biffle and Truex were still going through inspection when qualifying began at 4:30 p.m. ET, but all made it on track in plenty of time to qualify.

In the first of three qualifying rounds, David Ragan spun out to bring out a red flag and there was an earlier red flag for debris. Both times the red flags came out, Kevin Harvick was on track, preparing to make his qualifying attempt.

“The common sense was pretty low as to when to throw the caution,” said Harvick, who qualified 29th, two positions ahead of Dale Earnhardt Jr.

“It’s frustrating because when we showed up we had good speed,” said Earnhardt, who was fourth in practice earlier in the day.

Also failing to advance from Round 1 was Harvick’s Stewart-Haas Racing teammate Danica Patrick, who qualified 25th.
