Brian Scott optimistic about Braun effort at Phoenix

Hey FOXSports.com! My name is Brian Scott and I’m a Raybestos Rookie of the Year candidate this year in the NASCAR Nationwide Series for Braun Racing. After three years in the Camping World Truck Series, I have come to Braun Racing’s No. 11 team to take another step on the NASCAR ladder.

I have to say, the first five races have been tough. Because the No. 11 team was brand new at Braun Racing, we had to build everything from scratch. Everyone at Braun Racing began putting the pieces together in January by securing sponsor AccuDoc Solutions and hiring crew chief Billy Wilburn. Billy has done a great job assembling not only the Toyota Camrys and equipment needed to compete in Nationwide competition, but also the people. We have a great group of guys that have really worked hard to get us to the track.

Once we got to the track, we had to begin building, too. The No. 11 team did not have 2009 NASCAR Nationwide owners points to fall back on for qualifying, meaning we had to qualify every track on time, with no mistakes. Let me tell you, that’s pressure. Every week for the first five races, the Braun Racing No. 11 guys put a fast race car under me to ensure me a spot in the race. The pressure on me was intense, too. After all their hard work, I couldn’t let them down by making a mistake in qualifying. Luckily, we qualified for each of the first five races, building a comfortable spot of 17th in Nationwide Series owners points.

Being a rookie, the biggest goal of mine is to make laps. Even though I have raced at a lot of the tracks that we go to, racing against the best every weekend is ultimately what will prepare me for my next step. Going into Phoenix this weekend, this means we can focus on race trim in practice and breathe a sigh of relief knowing that there isn’t a chance we have to go home without racing. Phoenix has always been good to me in the past. In 2008, I came real close to winning against Ron Hornaday in the Camping World Truck Series — if it wasn’t for a late race pit stop that cost us. I ran a respectable 15th in my first Nationwide Series start there and I was with Braun Racing, so I look forward to going back.

I’m also looking forward to introducing a new Braun Racing marketing partner in Phoenix. BigSpot.com has come on board the No. 11 Camry for five races this year. BigSpot.com provides a pretty unique service. Fans go sign up at BigSpot.com to share their opinions on products and services they already use and then they are rewarded with prizes given away monthly. I think it’s pretty cool that you can get rewarded for just telling the companies what you want. Kind of like when Billy Wilburn rewards me with a fast race car when I tell him what I want!
