Bayne is expected to return this weekend
Trevor Bayne is edging closer to making his NASCAR return this weekend.
“It’s our firm expectation that he will compete this weekend,” said a source from Roush Fenway Racing.
Bayne, 20, underwent two days of testing at the Mayo Clinic and was scheduled to return Tuesday night from Minnesota.
Bayne will test at an undisclosed track Wednesday and will meet with NASCAR physicians before returning to action this weekend at Charlotte Motor Speedway behind the wheel of the No. 21 Ford for Wood Brothers Racing in his Sprint All-Star Race debut.
Bayne is also expected to compete at Iowa Speedway on Sunday. Last year Bayne won the pole for the Iowa Nationwide Series race and finished fifth while still under contract with Diamond Waltrip Racing.
Bayne, who won this year’s Daytona 500 with the Wood Brothers, has been sidelined from his Nationwide Series duties since Richmond race on April 29th. The Wood Brothers, who are running a partial schedule this season, have been on hiatus since the Sprint Cup race at Talladega Superspeedway on April 17th. Bayne suffered from symptoms that included swelling of the arm, numbness and double vision. An earlier release from Roush Fenway Racing in April stated the reaction was “thought to be related to the insect bite he sustained earlier this month.”
