Austin Dillon facing no further penalties after wrecking Cole Custer -- for now

Austin Dillon will not face additional penalties today for deliberately wrecking Cole Custer in Saturday’s DC Solar 200 NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Phoenix Raceway.

A NASCAR representative said that the sanctioning body will review Dillon’s behavior later this week, which means a penalty could be forthcoming.

NASCAR parked Dillon for the remainder of Saturday’s race, but a NASCAR representative also confirmed to FOXSports.com that Dillon will not face additional sanctions today.

On Lap 190 of the 200-lap XFINITY race, Custer inadvertently hit Dillon in Turn 1, and under caution, Dillon retaliated by stuffing Custer’s car in the wall.

“It was 100 percent my fault,” said Custer of the initial accident. “I got in there too deep, got really loose going in and couldn’t put any wheel into it. That was pretty much it. Just all my fault.”

Custer said he understood Dillon’s frustration.

“It definitely sucks for us points wise but I guess you can kind of expect that when he gets taken out,” said Custer of Dillon. “I can understand how frustrated he is about it. It is what it is. I will try not to have that happen again.”
