World Cup Fever: Audi launches giant led soccer scoreboard

Audi has joined in on the 2014 FIFA World Cup festivities by building a giant LED soccer scoreboard that is illuminated by the headlights of 28 Audi A8 sedans.

The 40-foot tall structure in Brooklyn, N.Y., is comprised of 45 shipping containers with the "digital clusters" being made up entirely of LED headlights on Audi's flagship sedan. The scoreboard, which can be seen from miles away and even from an airplane, kicked off with Team USA's victory over Ghana last Monday and will showcase the scores of every soccer match through July 14.

"Audi is proud to bring the passion of international soccer to the shores of Manhattan with a fun, eye-catching LED installation. As the U.S. appetite for international soccer grows, Audi will continue to bring fans exciting activations that enhance their soccer experience," said Loren Angelo, Director of Marketing, Audi of America.

The creative scoreboard begins a season-long commitment by Audi to bring world-class soccer to North America. In late July, the car giant will play host to the Audi Football Summit, which pits FC Bayern Munich of the UEFA Champions League against one of Mexico's most historic and popular clubs, Club Deportivo Guadalajara. The match will take place on July 31 at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey.

"We are proud to play host to one of the most historic and acclaimed soccer teams in the world," said President Scott Keogh, Audi of America. "Audi is honored to work with a world-class football club like FC Bayern and is looking forward to an exciting match."

Soccer has quickly moved to the forefront of American headlines during the FIFA World Cup, and if Team USA can advance out of the "Group of Death" with a win over Portugal on Sunday, the sport will without a doubt grow to an all-time high.
