Vettel, Rosberg top Friday practice in Austria while Hamilton struggles

Sebastian Vettel lapped the Red Bull Ring in Austria fastest of anyone on Friday with a 1:09.600 during the afternoon FP2 session in his Ferrari.

Vettel had only run four laps in the Friday morning FP1 session as the team spent the majority of the session fixing some gearbox issues on his car. The issues returned at the end of FP2, and Vettel will be hoping to not join Daniel Ricciardo and Fernando Alonso in receiving any grid penalties for the Austrian GP. The fastest in FP1 was Nico Rosberg, with teammate Hamilton 0.308 seconds behind him.

Hamilton attempted a run on the supersofts in the second session but, like many, was struggling with grip in the high speed turns and was unable to put on a solid time in FP2, finishing in fifth place on the timing sheets.
