Two drivers race against each other on virtual track using real cars
Ben Collins, the former Stig from BBC’s "Top Gear," has done a lot of crazy things in his life, but we’re not quite sure that he’s ever had an experience such as this.
Along with Formula Drift racer Matt Powers, Collins was pitted in a virtual reality race using … real cars.
In a publicity stunt shot in Los Angeles, the two drivers were both presented a separate race course – with each being the same length – and a Ford Mustang. Although they are, in reality, just racing their Mustangs around a hazardless parking lot, once they strap on their Oculus Rift virtual reality helmets, they realize that there’s a lot more to it than that.
With rocks, steam and other obstacles to maneuver around, both Collins and Powers are placed on the same course against each other under their virtual reality helmets and using their real Ford Mustangs as the controls for the game.
The video is the latest of Castrol Edge’s Titanium Trial series on YouTube and has accumulated over 300,000 views within the first five days of being uploaded.
