Tom Hessert wins Talladega ARCA race

In a race dominated by Grant Enfinger and John Wes Townley, it was New Jersey native Tom Hessert who made the right move at the right time to score the dramatic victory.

Hessert was able to make the move for the lead on the outside of Townley with two laps to go, with help from his teammate Austin Wayne Self. Working both lanes, Hessert held off a hard charge from Townley on the final lap to score the win.

The victory was Hessert's fourth overall win, and first at Talladega Suprspeedway.

"I just didn't really know how it was going to play out. I was able to get by the 25 (Justin Boston) on the backstretch, and that really helped us," Hessert said. "I've really got to thank Austin in the 22. He was all over our back bumper there. We wouldn't have done it without him."

Townley crossed the line second, followed by Self and Mason Mitchell. Spencer Gallagher rounded out the top five.

Pole-sitter Grant Enfinger was going for his fourth straight ARCA Racing Series victory, but was hit with a pit-road speeding penalty during the first round of green flag stops. The driver of the No. 90 Ford was never able to get back to the front and finished the day ninth.

"I'll tell you what, it was disappointing. It was definitely on my part," Enfinger said.

The race was slowed by only one caution, when Justin Allison blew a right front tire and made contact with Martinsville Speedway track president Clay Campbell. Both drivers were able to continue.

On the final lap, Mark Thompson made contact with Josh Williams and Scott Sheldon as they exited Turn 4. The contact sent Thompson's car hard into the outside wall, but ARCA officials kept the race green to the finish as the incident occurred at the back of the pack.

The ARCA Racing Series heads to Toledo Speedway for their next event on May 18, which can be seen FOX Sports 1.
