#SXonFOX: Dungey sweeps San Diego, Savatgy takes 250SX points lead

Ryan Dungey and Joey Savatgy took the 450SX and 250SX wins respectively at Petco Park in San Diego on Saturday night, and will both be wearing the red plates next weekend in Dallas.

Ken Roczen put a stop to Ryan Dungey’s winning streak last weekend in Glendale, but this week Dungey was quick to return to his winning ways, taking the checkered in his heat race and then taking the holeshot and the win in the 450SX Main and leading every lap. In doing so, he has swept the 2016 Supercross events at Petco Park.

Cole Seely, sporting a red, white and blue paint scheme for the third annual Military Appreciation Night, was keeping Dungey honest throughout most of the event. However, Seely ultimately had to settle for second, while a three-way scrap behind them ended with Roczen taking the third spot on the podium.

Meanwhile, Joey Savatgy took his second career 250SX Main event win and, in doing so, has taken the points lead away from Cooper Webb.

Both Savatgy and Webb were tied on points heading into San Diego, and were both sporting red plates on the front of their motorcycles. However, Webb got a poor start to the Main while Chris Alldredge took the holeshot. Savatgy took the lead over from his teammate when Alldredge’s Kawasaki stalled early on in the race, but soon found himself with Webb right behind him.

Yet much like the week before in Glendale, Webb went down while running in second and was unable to challenge Savatgy for the win. Webb was able to salvage second position while Christian Craig rounded out the podium in third. Savatgy has now won two out of the last three 250SX Main events.
