Simon Pageanud takes pole for Iowa Corn 300
Team Penske’s Simon Pagenaud will lead the field to green for Sunday’s Iowa Corn 300 at the Iowa Speedway in Newton, Iowa.
This is the 500th pole position in Team Penske’s history.
Pagenaud turned two laps at an average speed of 185.855 mph around the 7/8-mile course to take his fifth pole of the season. Josef Newgarden, in second, prevented an all-Penske front row from taking place, bumping Helio Castroneves back to third spot. Rookie Max Chilton will start alongside him in fourth.
To find the first Honda driver, you have to go all the way back to Mikhail Aleshin in ninth. Behind him, only Scott Dixon and Juan Pablo Montoya are in Chevrolets, with the last 11 spots on the grid being filled by Hondas.
