'Pretty cool' for Haas F1 team to earn double points for first time

The Haas F1 team got both its cars into the points for the first time when Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen finished eighth and 10th, respectively, in Monaco.

Grosjean had an untroubled race from eighth on the grid, gaining a spot from Sergio Perez and losing one to Lewis Hamilton.

Meanwhile, Magnussen was hampered when he had a tire puncture, and had to make an extra stop. Attrition ahead helped him regain ground.

“I think in general we are all pleased,” team principal Guenther Steiner told FOX Sports. “For Kevin to pick up a puncture, it was like, who else but him? There were two cars having a similar puncture, and Pirelli made the FIA aware of it. I’ve no idea what it was.

“But I think we got our luck back through people dropping out. We got two cars in the points for the first time, so I’m happy. I think it’s pretty cool, only the second year and two cars in the points in Monte Carlo. It’s the right place to do it, I guess.”

Magnussen admitted that he was frustrated not to have done better.

“I feel like I’ve had the most unlucky season of my life, but at least today we got both cars in the points and I’m proud of the team for that,” said the Dane. “It’s Monaco, and a lot of things can happen. There’s no reason to give up, you still push, and that’s what I did. I kept pushing.”

Team owner Gene Haas also is co-owner of Stewart-Haas Racing, which fields four teams in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. He formed the F1 team and began competing on the Formula One circuit only last season.
