John Force defeats daughter Courtney for first win of season

John Force beat his daughter Courtney in the Funny Car final to take his first win of the 2016 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series.

Force was joined by Tony Schumacher (Top Fuel), Allen Johnson (Pro Stock), and Andrew Hines (Pro Stock Motorcycle) as event winners at Sunday's Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals at Bandimere Speedway in Morrison, Colorado. As with Force, it was the first wins of the season for Schumacher and Johnson.

John Force had raced his way into the Funny Car final with a victory over Del Worsham, and then an all-Force final was guaranteed when Robert Hight jumped the red light against Courtney Force in the semis. John took the Wally with a holeshot win over Courtney.

Over in Top Fuel, it was another set of teammates taking on each other in the final, only in this case it was Don Schumacher Racing. Tony Schumacher and Antron Brown had both raced their way into the finals with wins over Clay Millican for Schumacher - by 0.009 seconds - and over J.R. Todd for Brown - after Todd's engine blew up. Come final time, it was Tony Schumacher taking the win as Antron Brown's engine let go.

In Pro Stock, the big story occurred before the finals event began, as both KB Racing teammates - Jason Line and Greg Anderson - who had won every NHRA Pro Stock race this season, were eliminated. Instead, the final was contested between Vincent Nobile and Allen Johnson, with Johnson taking the spoils in a record-breaking 10th final at the same circuit.

Over in Pro Stock Motorcycle, Andrew Hines and Eddie Krawiec faced off in the final with Hines taking his third win of the season with a 7.134 ET, the lowest ET in the Pro Stock Motorcycle class this weekend.
