IndyCar releases 2017 series schedule
The Verizon IndyCar Series released its 2017 schedule on Thursday, featuring 17 races running from March until September.
For the sixth year in a row, the season-opener will be held on the streets of St. Petersburg in Florida on March 12, and finish six months later at Sonoma Raceway on Sept. 17.
Many popular tracks which returned to the series in 2016, such as Watkins Glen, Road America and Phoenix, are again on the 2017 calendar. Meanwhile, the series will also be returning to Gateway Motorsports Park for the first time since 2003.
In total, the 17-round schedule features six road course races, six oval course races, and five rounds on temporary street courses.
The season’s premier race - the 101th running of the Indianapolis 500 - will be held on May 28 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
