Helio Castroneves finishes second at the Indianapolis 500, again

Helio Castroneves knows what it’s like to win the Indianapolis 500. He’s done it three times.

Helio Castroneves also knows what it’s like to finish second at the Indianapolis 500. He’s now done that three times too.

The 42-year-old Brazilian racing driver took his third win at the prestigious event in 2009. Since then, he has been seeking his fourth win at the Indianapolis 500 to tie him with Al Unser, A.J. Foyt and Rick Mears.

At the start of Sunday it didn’t look like it would be the day for the Team Penske driver, as he started 19th.

Things looked even worse on Lap 53 when Scott Dixon’s car went flying over the top of him.

To top things off, Castroneves had to serve a drive-through penalty in the middle of the race for jumping a restart.

However, with all that behind him, the Brazilian found himself up front leading with less than 10 laps to go at the 101st running of the Indianapolis 500 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

But with just two laps left to go Takuma Sato snuck on by and went on to win and Castroneves had to settle for second again.

"Yes, it's tough to accept after so many things happened," said Castroneves. "Finishing second again sucks. So close to get the fourth (win), but I'm really trying, I will not give up this dream. I know it's going to happen."
