First-ever Camaro to be shown at 2015 Carlisle Events

This year’s Carlisle GM Nationals will feature Chevrolet’s Camaro N100001: The first-ever Camaro.

Nearing 50 years of age, this 1967 Camaro features a 230 C.I. straight-six cylinder engine and a Grenada Gold paint job.

Carlisle Events confesses that this may be “its most iconic car of all time,” with the car slated to be on display in Building G at the Carlisle GM Nationals from June 26-28 in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. The building is located just outside of Gate 1 at the Carlisle PA Fairgrounds, where the Camaro will be featured in the Solid Lifter Showroom (SLS) among a gathering of 1970 Yenko Deuce Novas.

This Camaro was the first of 49 pilot Camaros built in GM's Norwood, Ohio assembly plant back in 1966. GM rolled all 49 out onto the road, this one featuring whitewall tires, a push-button radio and a unique 110-volte static lighting display.

It then began touring around the country, introducing the Camaro model to the public before being sent to a showroom in Oklahoma.

Eventually, the showroom sold the Camaro and it ventured out onto public roads before being turned into a drag car. It was then stored and then discovered in 2009, when it was sold to its current owner who finished restoring it in May 2014.
