F1 test driver Susie Wolff retiring at end of year

LONDON (AP) Susie Wolff, the first female driver to take part in a Formula One race weekend in 22 years, is retiring from racing at the end of the season.

The 32-year-old Briton joined Williams as a development driver in 2012 before being promoted to test driver this season.

Wolff made a breakthrough when she took part in free practice for the British Grand Prix last year. She later took part in practice at the 2014 German Grand Prix, as well as in Spain and Britain again this year.

Wolff issued a statement Wednesday thanking Williams for allowing her to ''achieve my dream of driving a Formula One car.''

She says ''I am now closing this chapter but looking forward to new challenges in the future.''
