Driver dies after multi-car crash at Eldora

Shane Unger of Rossburg, Ohio, died after a multi-car crash at Eldora Speedway Saturday night. He was 35.

According to a statement from the speedway, Unger was involved in an incident during a late restart in the second Dirt Late Model heat race at the World 100. Emergency crews quickly attended to Unger and he was transported to the hospital in an ambulance. Unger passed away Saturday night at Mercer County Community Hospital.

NASCAR Sprint Cup driver Tony Stewart, owner of the half-mile dirt oval, was competing at Richmond International Raceway on Saturday night and, according to a team spokesman after the race, had not yet been informed of Unger's death.

The speedway added that "the Unger family has conveyed their appreciation of the prayers and support expressed by the racing community and requests their privacy be respected at this time."
