Brandon Jones takes third career ARCA win at Michigan

Brandon Jones won Friday’s Corrigan Oil 200 at the Michigan International Speedway in Brooklyn, Michigan. It was his third career ARCA win.

Behind him, Chase Briscoe finished in second position on a day when many of his championship rivals hit issues. Josh Williams and Tom Hessert both ended up behind the wall due to mechanical issues before the day was done while Kyle Weatherman ran out of fuel in the closing laps.

Briscoe led the field away for the first of 100 laps. The field was set based off of practice times after qualifying was cancelled due to time constraints following three crashes. Myatt Snider would have started from pole, but he had been one of the drivers that had crashed during qualifying. Snider’s team unloaded the back-up car and he dropped to the back for the start.

Briscoe led for the entirety of the first green-flag run, which lasted 29 laps until Dustin Knowles left-front tire blew and shed debris over the racetrack. The subsequent caution brought the field down into the pits.

While Briscoe led the field in, it was Jones who led them off as Briscoe stalled while trying to get out of his pit stall. Briscoe battled Jones for the lead once the field went back to green but the race was slowed again as Snider got into the wall in turns 1 and 2.

Once the race was restarted, the field went green to the end, with Jones dominating the second half of the event. Briscoe tried to use a two-tire strategy to catch Jones but stalled leaving his pit stall again.

In the closing laps, Weatherman had the lead but did not have enough fuel to make it to the end, and ran out with five laps left to go.
