Two charged in bobblehead doll incident

Two men have been charged in an incident during a Sporting Kansas City soccer match in which the Kansas City goalkeeper was hit in the face with a bobblehead doll thrown from the stands.

Cody Wente was charged Friday in Wyandotte County District Court with felony aggravated battery and was being held on $10,000 bond. The 23-year-old is accused of throwing an Omar Bravo bobblehead that hit goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen just under his left eye in Wednesday night's game against Portland.

On Thursday, 21-year-old Robert Hauver was charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct and released from jail.

After being struck by the toy, Nielsen fell to the ground a Livestrong Sporting Park, where he was attended to by team physicians. The Dane was deemed fit to continue playing and came within 10 minutes of shutting out the visiting Timbers.

Sporting Kansas City won the game 3-1, moving the team into third place in the Eastern Conference.
