Timbers sign Frederic Piquionne to 1-year deal
The Portland Timbers have signed striker Frederic Piquionne to a one-year contract.
The signing was announced Thursday.
The 34-year-old native of New Caledonia and a veteran of the top French and English leagues will be added to Portland's roster once he gets his visa.
Piquionne played for English Premier League sides Portsmouth from 2009-10 and West Ham from 2010-2011, after eight seasons in France's Ligue 1. Last season, he scored two goals in eight games while on loan to the Doncaster Rovers.
He recently played for the Martinique National team that qualified for the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup with a top-four finish in last year's Caribbean Cup.
He played in two preseason matches for the Timbers while on trial.
