Sounders sign Swedish D Adam Johansson
The Seattle Sounders have signed Swedish defender Adam Johansson to a multi-year contract to solidify the Sounders' back line.
Seattle announced the signing Thursday. The 28-year-old Johansson has spent the past seven years playing for IFK Goteborg in the Swedish top division. He has played in 129 league matches for Goteborg since 2005.
Johansson is the presumptive replacement at the starting right back role for the Sounders. Seattle must replace James Riley, who was lost in the expansion draft.
Johansson made his international debut for the Swedish national team in 2009 against the United States. He later played in three World Cup qualifiers for Sweden, with his last national team appearance coming last February against Cyprus.
