Portland draws RSL, Colorado wins

Montreal impact 2, Philadelphia Union 1

Marco Di Vaio scored his 20th goal of the season, defender Karl Ouimette headed in his first career goal and the Montreal Impact took a big step toward making the MLS playoffs with a 2-1 victory over the Philadelphia Union on Saturday.

The Impact (14-12-7), who ended a six-game winless run, are solidly in playoff position going into their final regular-season game in Toronto.

Fabinho scored in the first half for Philadelphia (12-11-10), which began the day in a three-way tie with Montreal and Chicago for fourth place in the Eastern Conference.

Dallas 2, Seattle Sounders 0

Michel scored one goal and set up another to help FC Dallas beat Seattle 2-0 on Saturday, preventing the Sounders from clinching a playoff spot.

Michel, who replaced Kenny Cooper in the 58th minute, scored in the 87th minute after he tapped a shot into the right corner of the net from the top of the goalie's box. Michel rebounded a missed shot by David Ferreira before scoring his third goal of the season.

Michel set up FC Dallas' first goal in the 65th minute when he arched a free kick to Matt Hedges. Hedges redirected the pass with a header from about 10 yards away that bounced off the ground and into the top left corner of the net.

Colorado Rapids 3, Vancouver Whitecaps 2

Gabriel Torres scored his second goal of the game in the 77th minute, lifting Colorado to a 3-2 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday night that moved the Rapids into a tie for third place in the Western Conference.

Torres' left-footed shot circled into the left corner of the net two minutes after Camilo Sanvezzo had tied the game with a penalty kick that was awarded when Jordan Harvey was hauled down in the scoring area.

''Aside from a mistake, we had played so well,'' said Torres, who scored his second and third goals of the season. ''We weren't going to let this one get away.''

The Panamanian forward downplayed being motivated by Panama's recent stunning loss in a World Cup qualifying elimination game when the United States scored two goals in stoppage time.

''I put that aside here,'' Torres said. ''This game today was not about me, but all about the team,''

Deshorn Brown added a goal for Colorado (14-10-9). Its 51 points, a franchise best, tied it with Seattle and Los Angeles in the West. The top five teams in each conference advance to the postseason.

New England Revolution 3, Columbus Crew 2

Diego Fagundez scored his team-leading 13th goal of the season in the 76th minute to lift the Revolution to a 3-2 victory over the Columbus Crew on Saturday night that kept New England's playoff hopes alive.

A.J. Soares opened the scoring in the 32nd minute for New England and Dominic Oduro equalized in the 59th minute for Columbus. Chris Tierney converted a penalty kick in the 69th minute to put the Revolution back in front before Aaron Schoenfeld leveled it again in the 71st.

The Revolution (13-11-9, 48 points) are tied for fourth in the Eastern Conference with Houston. The top five teams in each conference advance to the playoffs.

The win extended the Revolution's unbeaten streak to five (3-0-2), while the Crew (12-16-5, 41 points) dropped their second straight.

Chicago Fire 1, Toronto 0

Mike Magee scored on a penalty kick in the 64th minute and Chicago held on for its third straight win, a 1-0 victory over Toronto FC on Saturday night that moved the Fire into a tie for third place in the Eastern Conference.

Chicago (14-12-7) and Montreal each have 49 points with one match remaining. New England and Houston, tied for fifth, each have 48 points, New England with one match left, Houston with two. The top five teams in each conference make the playoffs.

Magee's penalty kick was a lobbed shot to the left of goalkeeper Stefan Frei. The kick was awarded when a Chicago free kick hit Toronto midfielder Jonathan Osorio in the hand as he stood in the blocking wall.

The score was Magee's 20th of the season, tying him for the MLS lead with Montreal's Marco Di Vaio, who scored in the Impact's 2-1 victory over Philadelphia earlier on Saturday.

Toronto (5-17-11) has lost two straight and four of its last five.

Portland Timbers 0, Real Salt Lake 0

The Portland Timbers and Real Salt Lake played to a 0-0 tie Saturday night that left the top of the Western Conference standings unchanged.

Portland leads with 54 points and Real Salt Lake is second, one point back.

The Timbers clinched a playoff spot earlier in the day when Seattle lost to FC Dallas. It marks the first time Portland has made the playoffs since joining MLS in 2011.

Timbers head coach Caleb Porter is proud of the accomplishment, but doesn't want to stop there.

''It is a big thing for this club, it's a milestone that we're happy about,'' Porter said. ''But it's not just about being in the playoffs. There's still a lot of work to be done and we want to be a club that's not just in the playoffs, but making a run to win it.''

Real Salt Lake will clinch a playoff spot if San Jose loses to Los Angeles on Sunday.
