Pappa scores in Fire win over TFC

Austin Berry and Marco Pappa scored to rally the Chicago Fire to a 2-1 victory over Toronto FC on Saturday night.

Berry headed Pavel Pardo's perfect free kick over Toronto goalkeeper Milos Kocic from 10 yards out in the 84th minute to give the Fire the lead. Berry, a defender, outmaneuvered two Toronto defenders to position himself for his third goal of the year.

Pappa tied the match from close range in the 64th minute, firing a right-footed shot between the post and defender Richard Eckersley. Pappa, a midfielder, took a loose ball in the penalty area when Kocic failed to cradle it, then deked Eckersley before shooting. It was his team-leading sixth goal of the season.

The goal made up for Pappa's misplay in the same area in the 16th minute. Aiming for a teammate, he misplayed a pass directly to Toronto's Ryan Johnson. The forward left-footed a hard shot past Chicago goalkeeper Sean Johnson from 13 yards out for his fifth goal of the year.

Chicago (10-7-5), fifth in the Eastern Conference, snapped a two game winless streak. Toronto (5-13-4) played the last 11 minutes plus four minutes stoppage time a man down after defender Logan Emory was ejected for a pair of yellow cards, both for rough tackles.
