Major League Soccer Roundup, Sep. 11

David Beckham made his season debut for Los Angeles on Saturday night, playing 20 minutes in the Galaxy's 3-1 victory over the Columbus Crew.

Beckham had been out of action since March 14, when he tore his left Achilles' tendon while playing for AC Milan on loan. The injury kept the midfielder from playing in his fourth World Cup for England.

In other matches, Thierry Henry scored his second Major League Soccer goal to help the New York Red Bulls down the Colorado Rapids 3-1.

FC Dallas played out a scoreless draw with the San Jose Earthquakes, the Philadelphia Union beat the Chicago Fire 1-0 and DC United had a 1-0 win over Toronto FC.

Beckham replaced Juninho in the 70th minute to loud cheers and a partial standing ovation. Four minutes later, Beckham received a yellow card for a dangerous foul against Emmanuel Ekpo.

Edson Buddle, Dema Kovalenko and Jovan Kirovski scored and Landon Donovan had two assists to help the Galaxy regain the top spot in Major League Soccer's Western Conference, three points ahead of Real Salt Lake.

Andres Mendoza scored for the Crew.

Henry put New York ahead in the 17th minute off a pass from Estonia midfielder Joel Lindpere. Tim Ream made it 2-0 in the 32nd with his first MLS goal, scoring off Tony Tschani's corner.

Omar Cummings raced in from midfield to score for Colorado and cut the lead in the 52nd minute, before Dane Richards sealed the win for New York six minutes later.

Dallas extended its unbeaten streak to 14 games with the draw at Santa Clara, California.

Dallas, which hasn't lost since May 20, was never in much danger of falling to the Earthquakes, whose best scoring chance came when goalkeeper Kevin Hartman briefly mishandled a long back header from teammate Jair Benitez in the eighth minute.

Hartman recovered quickly to keep the ball from bouncing into his own net.

French midfielder Sebastien Le Toux scored his 11th league goal of the season in the 36th minute to help Philadelphia extend Chicago's winless streak to five matches.

Le Toux, 26, trails Los Angeles' Buddle (13) and New York's Juan Pablo Angel (12) in goals scored this season.

At Toronto, Julius James scored in the 81st minute to help D.C. United deal a blow to his former team's dwindling playoff hopes.

Toronto, winless in its past six MLS matches, needed a victory to jump back into the chase for a postseason berth.

D.C. United, which has had trouble scoring, had the better chances but could not finish.
