Major League Soccer Roundup, Oct. 9
David Ferreira and Milton Rodriguez each scored as FC Dallas set a Major League Soccer record for the longest unbeaten streak in a single season at 19 games Saturday with a 2-2 draw with the Colorado Rapids.
FC Dallas also equaled the overall league mark set by Columbus, which won or drew 19 straight games over the 2004-05 seasons. Dallas also set the single-season record for ties, a mark previously held by four teams.
Jeff Larentowicz scored for the Rapids in the 13th and 51st minutes.
Also Saturday, the Seattle Sounders beat the Kansas City Wizards 2-1, the San Jose Earthquakes downed D.C. United 2-0, Chivas USA trounced Toronto FC 3-0 and the New York Red Bulls played out a scoreless draw with Real Salt Lake.
Sanna Nyassi and Alvaro Fernandez each scored a second-half goals as Seattle secured a playoff berth.
Kansas City, which got a late penalty from Davy Arnaud, lost its third straight and moved to the verge of playoff elimination.
Chris Wondolowski scored twice at Washington as San Jose clinched the first playoff appearance since its rebirth.
The Earthquakes, who reformed in 2008 after the original team became the Houston Dynamo in 2006, needed a win and a Kansas City loss to clinch a playoff spot.
Jorge Flores, Jesus Padilla and Rodolfo Espinoza scored in the second half to give Chivas USA a home win over Toronto.
Toronto FC lost its third consecutive game.
New York's draw with defending MLS champion Real Salt Lake helped it retain first place in the Eastern Conference.
The Red Bulls were playing without starting goalkeeper Bouna Coundoul and midfielder Dane Richards, both away on international duty. They still controlled most of the action Saturday but couldn't score through a strong Real defense.
