'You never know', 'there's no tomorrow' among Angels' current rallying cries

Wednesday night's 3-2 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers helped the Los Angeles Angels salvage a game of the Freeway Series and avoid a sweep at the hands of their So*Cal neighbors.

It also kept their postseason hopes alive.

Entering play Thursday, the Halos sit at 70-69, five and a half games behind the Houston Astros in the AL West and three and a half games behind the Texas Rangers for the second AL Wild Card spot.

Obviously, things could be better for Mike Scioscia's club...but they're still in the race at the moment.

On Wednesday, Erick Aybar wore high socks for the game and told Albert Pujols and Mike Trout to do the same - as a rallying cry (or 'good luck' superstition, perhaps).

After the game, Pujols explained the rationale to MLB.com's Alden Gonzalez: "Sometimes you just have to change the flavor, man. Just try to do something to turn things around, because you never know."

Pujols added to that 'now or never' mentality with another quote captured by Gonzalez: "For us, there's no tomorrow. That's how we have to look at it this whole month."

He's right, since the Angels need to turn that win into a series of wins if they want to really get back into the race. This weekend, they'll match up against those first-place Astros with a lot on the line, so don't be surprised if they sport the high socks once again.
