Yankees still waiting on Pettitte

The calendar rolled one more day toward spring training on Wednesday, without Andy Pettitte telling the New York Yankees to include him in their 2011 plans.

“As of right now, he’s not playing,” Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said in an interview at the owners’ meetings. “There’s really nothing to talk about.”

For the Yankees, no news is bad news. With a little more than one month left before the team’s first pitchers-and-catchers workout on Feb. 15, the Yankees are short on starting pitchers.

CC Sabathia, A.J. Burnett and Phil Hughes are certain to be in the rotation. Beyond that group, Ivan Nova and Sergio Mitre are the only current 40-man roster players who started games for the Yankees last year.

The Yankees have shown interest in right-hander Jeremy Bonderman, among other free agents.
