Yankees pick Tanaka to start Wild Card Game

The (not so) mystery is finally over.

Joe Girardi and the New York Yankees announced that Masahiro Tanaka will start Tuesday's Wild Card Game.

"He's pitching," Girardi told reporters via MLB.com prior to Sunday's regular season finale against the Baltimore Orioles. "That was the guy we were planning on pitching in that one-game playoff, but we wanted to see how he was, and we wanted to get him as healthy as possible before we pitched him again."

Tanaka had been dealing with a hamstring issue, but seems to be good to go.

"I felt good about it after the game the other day, because he came out healthy," Girardi said. "And now he's on a normal schedule. He did his bullpen [Saturday]. He's ready to go."

On the season, Tanaka is 12-7 with a 3.51 ERA.
