Yankees offer to pay for drug rehab if Dwight Gooden is willing to go

As concern over Dwight "Doc" Gooden's welfare continues to grow, one of his former teams has offered to help him in a huge way.

Despite Gooden's adamant denials, Darryl Strawberry is worried that his former teammate is in danger of dying from his drug addiction and is desperate to help him. Apparently, so are the New York Yankees.

In a last-ditch effort, Strawberry recently made a public plea, begging his good friend to get help for his cocaine addiction. On Tuesday, the Yankees reached out to Strawberry and offered to pay for Gooden's drug treatment if he agrees to it.

From the New York Daily News:

"The Yankees saw the story (in the Daily News on Monday)," Strawberry said, "and they called me and said, 'What can we do to help?' A lot of individuals have reached out to me too, but for the Yankees to show that type of support to Doc, I'm very grateful to them for that."

The Yankees confirmed to the Daily News that they did make the offer but declined to comment on the situation.

The story made waves in Monday's news cycle after a recent photo of Gooden, who appeared fragile and in questionable health, was published by the Daily News.
