Yadier Molina's heads-up play saves Cardinals from embarrassing error
St. Louis Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina showed why he's an eight-time Gold Glove winner Thursday.
With the score tied at 1 in the seventh inning, Stephen Drew hit a high pop-up in the infield. Pitcher Mike Leake settled under it as shortstop Aledmys Diaz came charging in to over the play.
Diaz came in and tried to make the play but the ball popped out of his glove. Instead of the ball hitting the ground, giving the Nationals a solid start to the inning, Molina tracked the play. He saw the ball pop out and calmly corralled it (watch the video above to see the play).

No, it wasn't a flashy play, but it's the kind of heads-up play that makes Molina invaluable.
