White Sox: Todd Frazier Finishing 2016 Season Strong
September has been Todd Frazier‘s strongest month this season. The White Sox 3B is hitting .282 with 4 HRs and 11 RBIs.
The Chicago White Sox don’t have much to celebrate this season. The team is currently on a five-game losing streak and 4-6 in their last 10. With 10 games left and the season lost, it’s really just time to focus on individual accomplishments. Todd Frazier is having a great month at the plate. Statistically, this has been his best month this season.
The 3B blasted another home run off Jared Eickhoff of the Philadelphia Phillies in an 8-3 loss on Wednesday. It was his 38th home run and 95th RBI of the season. Frazier already surpassed his totals from last season [35 HR, 89 RBI] and passed his manager, Robin Ventura, for most home runs by a Sox third baseman.
With 10 games left, Frazier, like his other teammates, will focus on trying to win games and hopefully add to their stats. 40 home runs and 100 RBIs is well within his sights.
Among other 3B, Frazier stacks up pretty well. Currently, he leads all American League 3B an is second in baseball to only Nolan Arrenado [39] of the Colorado Rockies in home runs.
Production like this could put Frazier in high demand this offseason. He doesn’t really hit for average but his bat could help an offensively challenged team. In fact, his average of .221 is the lowest of his career. Last season, he hit .255 for the Cincinnati Reds.
Frazier could be one of many players traded by the White Sox this offseason
It’s not secret that Frazier is one of the few assets the organization has that could get some sort of return. It’s also no secret the White Sox have some glaring holes on the team. So, it will be interesting to see how the front office handles this offseason.
If they decide to go into complete rebuild mode, then it only makes sense to trade a guy like Frazier. This would put them in a hole, but with the emergence of Tyler Saladino and the return of Brett Lawrie, they would have some options. The biggest issue with be trying replace his bat.
Now, he has said in the past he wants to stay in Chicago. Whether that was genuine or just him answering a question, we will probably never know. It’s hard for me envision anyone wanting to play for this team. If the plan is to compete for a playoff spot, then it’s hard to justify trading Frazier because there is simply no way they can replace hit bat, unless they spend big in free agency.
There’s really no telling how this offseason will shakeup but I expect their to be a lot of movement on the South Side. Whether it be trading Frazier, or moving on from guys like Chris Sale and Jose Quintana, they cannot go into 2017 with this same roster. Doing so will just ensure another losing season.
