Vogt named A's recipient of 2015 'Heart and Hustle' Award

In a bit of news that should surprise nobody that pays attention to the Oakland Athletics, catcher Stephen Vogt was named the club's recipient of the Heart & Hustle Award on Tuesday.

The designation, made by the MLB Players Alumni Association (as per the press release) "...honors active players who demonstrate a passion for the game of baseball and best embody the values, spirit and tradition of the game."

There's no doubting the passion of Vogt, who, at age 30, made his first All-Star Game this season with a strong first half for the A's. He is, in many ways, the heart and soul of the scrappy A's, who find themselves fighting to stay out of last place in the AL West and start another improbable second half playoff run.

A player is nominated from all 30 MLB clubs as a 'preliminary' winner, and will go into a final vote to determine the overall league-wide winner of the honor. On November 10, the final winner will be announced at a special event in New York after votes are cast by alumni, current players and fans around the league.
