Ventura vows to be himself

Robin Ventura was introduced Tuesday as the Chicago White Sox's new manager and said he has had plenty of congratulatory phone calls. The best advice he's heard: be himself.

Ventura, who has no major league coaching or managerial experience, says he is humbled and honored to be the team's 39th manager. He played for the White Sox for 10 years.

He replaces Ozzie Guillen, who is now manager of the Florida Marlins.

General manager Ken Williams said Ventura's leadership abilities are evident. He also said that before hiring Ventura he considered first baseman Paul Konerko as a player/manager, although they never talked about it.
