Torres hits walkoff homer as Yanks win again
NEW YORK (AP) Gleyber Torres became the youngest Yankees player to hit a walkoff homer, a three-run shot in the ninth inning that gave New York a 7-4 win over the Cleveland Indians on Sunday for its 15th victory in 16 games.
At 21 years and 144 days, bettered Mickey Mantle, who was 21 years and 185 days when he hit three-run, ninth-inning drive of Boston's Ellis Kinder in a 6-3 win on April 23, 1953.
Aaron Hicks and Neil Walker, who began the day batting .182, opened the ninth with consecutive doubles to tie it, chasing Allen (2-1). One out later, pinch-hitter Giancarlo Stanton was intentionally walked and Torres drove a full-count pitch from Dan Otero over the center-field fence.
Chasen Shreve (2-0) struck out two in a perfect ninth for the win.
SEATTLE (AP) - Shohei Ohtani returned from a sprained ankle and took a shutout into the seventh inning while outpitching Felix Hernandez, Mike Trout hit his 12th home run and the Angels beat the Mariners.
Ohtani (3-1) made his first start on the mound since April 24. The two-way Japanese star looked to be completely in rhythm and showed no effects, striking out six.
Trout's home run, which put him one behind Boston's Mookie Betts for the major league lead, was the last of three hit by the Angels. Zack Cozart and Chris Young connected for solo drives off Felix Hernandez (4-3) in the second.
DIAMONDBACKS 3, ASTROS 1
PHOENIX (AP) - Matt Koch outpitched Justin Verlander to become the first pitcher to beat MVPs in consecutive starts in at least 71 years, lifting the Diamondbacks to a victory over the Astros.
Koch (2-0) outlasted Los Angeles Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw in his previous start and faced Verlander to become the first pitcher since 1947 to face different MVPs in consecutive starts.
Koch allowed a run and six hits in 6 1/3 innings for the Diamondbacks, who have yet to lose a series this season.
Verlander (4-1) took the loss, ending his 11-game regular season winning streak.
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Kevin Pillar scored the tiebreaking run on Alex Colome's wild pitch in the ninth inning, and the Blue Jays beat the Rays to stop a three-game losing streak.
Blue Jays shortstop Aledmys Diaz was carted off the field in the fifth inning after spraining his left ankle. Diaz drove in a run with an infield single to first baseman Brad Miller and hit the side of the base while trying to avoid a collision with pitcher Chris Archer, who was covering.
Pillar doubled off Colome (2-4) leading off the ninth, advanced on Kendrys Morales' grounder and came home without a throw when Colome bounced a pitch off the mitt of catcher Wilson Ramos, who tried for a backhand pickup.
Ryan Tepera (2-1) failed to protect an eighth-inning lead, allowing a home run to Carlos Gomez leading off the inning.
Roberto Osuna pitched the ninth for his ninth save.
CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago's James Shields pitched a no-hitter into the seventh inning before the Twins rallied late for a victory over the White Sox.
With the Twins trailing 2-0, Eduardo Escobar broke up the no-hitter with a one-out single in the seventh.
Zach Duke (2-1) got the win with Fernando Rodney pitching the ninth for his fifth save.
Bruce Rondon (1-2) took the loss.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - The Royals won a series for the first time in 11 tries this season, beating the Tigers as Mike Moustakas drove in three runs with a double and sacrifice fly.
Kansas City took three of four from the Tigers. The Royals had lost nine previous series this year and split one.
Jakob Junis (4-2) improved to 3-0 against the Tigers this year and matched his career high with eight strikeouts.
Kelvin Herrera retired pinch-hitter Nicholas Castellanos on a game-ending flyout with a man on for his seventh save in eight chances.
Matthew Boyd (1-3) gave up four runs.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Chris Sale struck out 12, J.D. Martinez homered again and the Red Sox beat the Rangers to maintain their AL East lead heading into a highly anticipated showdown at Yankee Stadium.
The Red Sox hold a major league-best 25-9 record and a one-game lead over the Yankees. Boston and New York tangled earlier this season at Fenway Park, and the Yankees have won 15 of 16 overall entering this three-game set that begins Tuesday night.
Sandy Leon added a three-run homer for the Red Sox, who took three of four to start a 10-game road trip.
Sale (3-1) got his first five outs by strikeouts and the only run against him was Ryan Rua's solo homer in the seventh.
Doug Fister (1-3) allowed six runs.
Ian Desmond hit a pair of solo homers, including a tiebreaking drive in the eighth inning that sent the Rockies over the sagging Mets for their season-high fifth straight win.
The Mets finished an 0-6 homestand, getting swept by Atlanta and Colorado, in which they were outscored 34-11 and shut out three times.
Desmond homered off Noah Syndergaard in the second. He hit his sixth homer with two outs in the eighth off Hansel Robles (2-1).
Kyle Freeland (2-4) gave up two runs and four hits in seven innings. He struck out eight, walked one and retired 21 of the last 23 batters he faced.
Adam Ottavino earned his first save of the season.
ATLANTA (AP) - Andrew Suarez outpitched Mike Soroka in a rookie matchup, and San Francisco survived Atlanta's ninth-inning rally for a win and the Giants' first series sweep of the Braves in four years.
Suarez (1-1) allowed only one unearned run and seven hits and one walk in 5 1/3 innings.
The Braves rallied with two runs off closer Hunter Strickland in the ninth. Pinch-hitter Kurt Suzuki's double drove in Jose Bautista, who singled. Ender Inciarte's groundout drove in Johan Camargo, before Ozzie Alibies popped out to end the game. Strickland earned his eighth save.
Soroka (1-1) lasted only four innings in his first home start, allowing four runs.
WASHINGTON (AP) - Max Scherzer struck out 15 in only 6 1/3 innings, and the Nationals then rallied for two runs in the ninth to beat the Phillies.
Scherzer and Phillies starter Jake Arrieta, who have combined to win the last three NL Cy Young Awards, kept things close into the late innings before both bullpens faltered.
Philadelphia closer Hector Neris (1-2) took a 4-3 lead into the ninth, but didn't get an out. He walked pinch hitter Pedro Severino with the bases loaded to tie it and Wilmer Difo followed with a winning single.
Sean Doolittle (1-1) pitched the ninth to get the win.
MILWAUKEE (AP) - Chad Kuhl and Richard Rodrguez combined on a two-hitter, leading the Pirates over the Brewers.
Adam Frazier, Jordy Mercer and Josh Bell hit solo homers for the Pirates.
Kuhl (4-2) allowed one hit in seven innings.
Rodriguez struck out his first four batters, allowed Hernan Perez's single up the middle, then struck out his final two hitters.
Chase Anderson (3-3) gave up five runs and five hits in 5 1/3 innings.
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Andrew Triggs allowed two hits over seven innings, Khris Davis and Matt Olson drove in runs and the Athletics rallied to beat Baltimore and extend the Orioles' losing streak to six games.
Triggs (3-1) struck out nine and retired his last 12 batters. Blake Treinen finished the three-hitter for his fifth save in seven chances.
Cobb (0-4) yielded two runs in six innings.

MONTERREY, Mexico (AP) - Eric Hosmer hit a go-ahead, two-run homer for the second straight day, rookie Eric Lauer got his first major league win and the Padres beat the Dodgers to take two of three in Major League Baseball's first regular-season series in Mexico since 1999.
Los Angeles put Clayton Kershaw on the disabled list before the game with left biceps tendinitis, and the defending NL champions said their ace had returned to Los Angeles to be examined.
Hosmer connected in the fifth off Tony Cingrani (0-2), who had relieved Ross Stripling at the start of the inning.
Lauer (1-1) lost at Colorado in his major league debut on April 24 and did not get a decision when he started six days later at San Francisco.
CINCINNATI (AP) - Starlin Castro drove in three runs for the second straight game, Cameron Maybin added two hits and two RBIs and the Marlins won their fourth straight series, holding on against the Reds.
J.T. Realmuto reached base four times and scored twice for the Marlins, who won the last two games of the series after losing Friday's opener.
Joey Votto had a two-run homer among his four hits and four RBIs, but couldn't keep the Reds from slipping to 8-26 for the third time in franchise history and first since 1934. Votto's third-inning opposite-field homer to left snapped Cincinnati's 18-inning scoreless streak.
Nick Wittgren (1-0) took over after a 73-minute rain delay and got the win.
Brandon Finnegan (0-3) lasted 3 1/3 innings in his fifth start since coming off the disabled list.
