Top two D-backs draft picks face off in College World Series

Tuesday’s College World Series game between the Vanderbilt Commodores and TCU Horned Frogs was a treat for Arizona Diamondbacks fans because it featured the team’s first two picks in this year’s MLB Draft. Playing for Vanderbilt was the D-backs’ first round pick and No. 1 overall selection, shortstop Dansby Swanson. On the mound for TCU was left-handed pitcher Alex Young -- the D-backs’ second round pick (43rd overall).

Swanson went 0 for 4, but his team advanced to the CWS semifinal en route to what could be a second consecutive championship for the Commodores. Despite TCU’s loss, Young struck out 12 in 7 2/3 innings while only giving up one earned run on three hits. The Horned Frogs will get another shot at the Commodores if they can beat LSU in an elimination game.
