Top Dodgers pitching prospects Urias, De Leon highlight spring training invitees

Two of the Los Angeles Dodgers' up-and-coming starters will be attending spring training.

The Dodgers released their list of non-roster invitees to spring training on Monday, and among the 16 players who will be working out with the Dodgers' major-league squad are their top two pitching prospects, left-hander Julio Urias and right-hander Jose De Leon.

The 19-year-old Urias, who was invited to Dodgers' spring training last year, is considered one of the most promising young arms in MLB, and is expected to join the Dodgers in some capacity at the major-league level in 2016.

In his three years in the minors, Urias, who ranks second in the team's organization behind shortstop Corey Seager (per MLB.com), has posted a 7-7 record with a 2.91 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, and 264 strikeouts versus 75 walks in 222 1/3 innings over 61 outings, 56 of which have been starts.

This will be the first spring training camp for De Leon, who was selected by the Dodgers in the 24th round of the 2013 amateur draft.

The 23-year-old righty has overpowered the opposition in his three years in the minors, striking out 335 batters against 79 walks in 244 1/3 innings while holding a 3.61 ERA and 1.19 WHIP over 51 outings, 48 of which have been starts.

Joining Urias and De Leon at spring training are righties Chris Anderson (No. 9 in Dodgers' organization), Matt West, Brooks Brown, and Lisalverto Bonilla. Catchers Kyle Farmer (No. 28), Shawn Zarraga, and Jack Murphy will also participate.

On the infield and outfield front, Cody Bellinger (No. 10), Charlie Culberson, Corey Brown, Alex Hassan, Rico Noel, Rob Segedin, and former Dodger Elian Herrera have been invited to spring training as well.
