Tony Gwynn Jr. gets walk-off hit on Father's Day (VIDEO)
There was probably a little extra motivation and emotion behind Tony Gwynn Jr.’s walk-off hit for the Washington Nationals’ Triple A affiliate on Sunday. The son of late Padres great Tony Gwynn got the hit on Fathers’ Day -- just a few days past the one-year anniversary of his father’s passing. Gwynn died the day after Father’s Day last year.
Gwynn spoke about the hit to MiLB.com:
"Anytime you can be part of a walk-off, it's pretty awesome. But today being Father's Day and this being the week of the first anniversary of his passing, it meant that much more. I'm just blessed to have the opportunity to honor my father like that."
