Tim Tebow got a standing ovation for his first hit with the Mets

Don't look now, but Tim Tebow is finally making some progress at the plate.

The former Heisman Trophy winner finally got his first base hit hit on Monday, in a Grapefruit League game that he wasn't even supposed to play in.

Tebow laced a single off Marlins left-hander Kyle Lobstein in the bottom of the fifth, which garnered quite a reaction from the crowd.

After going 0-for-7 with three strikeouts in two games with the Mets' major-league squad last week, Mets manager Terry Collins said that there were no plans to bring Tebow back following his second start on Friday.

But thanks to the World Baseball Classic and a number of split-squad games, the Mets were short-handed and called on Tebow to join them from their minor league camp.

There's no telling if Tebow will be back with the big league team again this spring, but it certainly made for a memorable moment for QB-turned-DH.

It was a lot of excitement for base hit in a meaningless exhibition game, which just goes to show that Tebowmania is alive and well -- at least for now.
