Tigers' Brad Ausmus compliments A.J. Hinch and his upstart Astros

Detroit Tigers manager Brad Ausmus has strong ties to the Houston Astros - both in the past and in the present. In addition to playing in Houston from 2001-2008, Ausmus also spent time working with now-Astros manager A.J. Hinch for a few years in San Diego starting in 2010.

The Astros began a four-game set in Detroit on Thursday by losing in extra innings. Before the game, Evan Drellich of the Houston Chronicle asked Ausmus for some impressions of the 2015 'Stros, who began the day an American League-best 27-14: “They thump the ball, they run and they pitch. A.J. Hinch has done a nice jobs at the new manager. I think they’ve made it clear they’re a force to be reckoned with in the American league.”

As for Hinch, Ausmus is glad to see him back at the helm of a club - and a successful one, to boot: "He’s a very smart baseball guy… I felt like it’d be good to get a second opportunity. I’m glad his team is playing well for him at this point, so I’m happy for him.”
