This Jose Fernandez moment is exactly why baseball fans adored him

The baseball world awoke to the devastating news that superstar Marlins pitcher Jose Fernandez died at the age of 24 early Sunday. The Marlins cancelled their game against the Braves, and players from around the league have been paying tribute to Fernandez, who was beloved by his peers and fans alike.

Fernandez played the game with an intensity and joy matched by few others, and if there's one play from his career that illustrates who Fernandez was as a person, it's his incredible catch on a line drive hit up the middle by Troy Tulowitzki on August 24th, 2013.

Fernandez threw a 97-mph pitch inside on Tulowitzki, who laced a hit directly toward the pitcher. With incredible speed, Fernandez plucked the ball out of the air for the out to end the inning - and Tulowitzki was stunned. He stopped in his tracks and asked Fernandez "did you catch that," and Fernandez could only laugh as he made his way back to the dugout.

Fernandez made a similar grab the month before against the Padres.
