The Los Angeles Angels have the Wright stuff in 7-1 win

When the Los Angeles Angels claimed right handed pitcher Daniel Wright off waivers in early September Wright did not know what to expect. He has started 5 games in September & gotten better each time out. Now he has his 1st MLB win.

When Daniel Wright took the mound for the Los Angeles Angels Friday night he was just trying to show the Angels that he might be worth inviting to Spring Training. Wright’s performance did just that as he threw six strong innings giving up six hits and only one run while striking out five to help the Angels to their fourth straight win and eighth in their last nine games.

The 7-1 victory for Wright avenged his last hard-luck defeat to the Astros last Sunday in Houston when wright lost despite giving up only three runs in six innings getting the loss.  The difference for the Angels and Wright tonight was the continued resurgence by the Halos’ offense.

On Friday night the Angels scored seven runs in the first five innings including a four-run second inning that erased a 1-0 deficit thanks to a three-run bases clearing double by Kaleb CowartJefry Marte hit his second home run in three games a solo shot in the third and then shortstop Andrelton Simmons capped the scoring with a two-run fifth inning single.

However the story of the night was Wright who came into the game with a 6.95 ERA on the season and lowered it almost a full point to 6.13 in the best start of his career. For Wright it was his lucky number seventh start of the season and of his career (Wright made two starts in Cincinnati earlier this season).

Wright only had one 1-2-3 inning on the night but other than an RBI-Double by Teoscar Hernandez that scored Carlos Correa in the second inning, Wright was able to work around the hits the rest of the way.

After the first three innings Wright only allowed two singles with one of them getting erased on an inning-ending double play hit into by Hernandez in the fourth. So now all Wright can do is wait and see if the Angels or any team for that matter will give him a shot to make their starting rotation next season.  Friday night’s performance will definitely not hurt his cause.

So now the Angels hope to get a good outing from Tyler Skaggs tomorrow and hopefully from Jered Weaver on Sunday if he is able to make the start. The Angels should announce some time tomorrow if Weaver will be able to go on Sunday.
