The Blue Jays finally have a normal dirt infield like the rest of MLB

When Mark Shapiro took over as the CEO of the Toronto Blue Jays, one of his top priorities was to fix the team's home ballpark. The main change that would be made to the Rogers Centre was the infield, which was almost all turf. It made for a much faster infield, giving fielders trouble on ground balls.

Fortunately on Thursday, construction of the new dirt infield was completed ahead of the Blue Jays' series against the Red Sox beginning on Friday. Hooray!

"It's the way baseball was meant to be played," senior vice-president of business operations Stephen Brooks said via The Star. "It makes us consistent with every other team now."

The Tampa Bay Rays are the only other team with artificial turf, though they've long had a dirt infield. It's about time the Blue Jays caught up with the rest of MLB and made these necessary changes.
