Storm threatens status of games in Deep South

ATLANTA (AP) The deep freeze which engulfed the Southeast on Tuesday is threatening the status of college basketball and NBA games scheduled for Wednesday.

The winter storm trapped thousands of motorists on Atlanta's frozen interstates, including Atlanta Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman and Georgia Tech sports information director Dean Buchan.

Buchan told The Associated Press on Wednesday morning he had been stuck on I-285 for 19 1/2 hours and was finally moving slowly in his car.

Freeman tweeted he was stuck for 11 hours before being rescued by former teammate Chipper Jones in his 4-wheeler.

''A moment I'll never forget!,'' Freeman said on his Twitter account before adding that Jones ''hugged me the whole way home!''

The Alabama men's basketball game at Auburn scheduled for Wednesday was postponed to Thursday.
