Source: Brewers, Hoffman agree on one-year deal

In addition to reaching preliminary agreement with closer Trevor Hoffman on a one-year, $8 million contract, the team will interview former A's and Mets pitching coach Rick Peterson this week.

The Brewers have declined to offer contracts to interim pitching coach Chris Bosio and bullpen coach Stan Kyles, though both could move into other roles with the team.

Peterson worked with Brewers manager Ken Macha in Oakland, first when Macha as a coach, then when he became manager. He also was the pitching coach for Willie Randolph, now the Brewers' bench coach, when Randolph managed the Mets.

According to a major-league source, the deal with Hoffman includes a mutual option for 2011 that could be worth up to $8.5 million depending upon how many games Hoffman finishes next season.

The buyout on the option is $500,000, but could increase to $1 million if Hoffman finishes 40 games.

An announcement is expected Wednesday. Hoffman first revealed he was close to re-signing with the Brewers in an interview with the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel.
