Should the Tigers consider signing Rafael Soriano?

The already interesting Detroit Tigers bullpen situation just got a little more intriguing.

On Thursday, we learned that closer Joe Nathan will undergo Tommy John surgery, putting an end to his 2015 season.

Nathan, 40, had only thrown one-third of an inning for the Tigers this season and was replaced by Joakim Soria when Nathan went on the DL. While it doesn't look like Soria is giving up his ninth inning duties anytime soon, Detroit could be in the market for a reliever to add depth to an already shaky 'pen.

Enter Rafael Soriano.

Soriano, 35, spent the last two seasons with the Washington nationals. In 2014, he posted a 3.19 ERA, with 59 strikeouts in 62 innings pitched. He had an ERA under 1.00 in the first half with the Nats last season, but struggled badly in the second half. Soriano, who happens to be a client of sports super-agent Scott Boras, is still a free agent, although that might not be the case for long.

According to The Boston Globe, Boras says calls on Soriano have picked up.

The Tigers are one of the teams that reportedly showed interest in Soriano this past offseason and with the loss of Nathan, that interest might be rekindled. With the season being a month old, Soriano's price would likely be much lower, but it's unclear if it would be low enough for the Tigers to be seriously interested.
