Segura just wanted a chance to play

Earlier in the week the Brewers placed shortstop Jean Segura on the 15-day Disabled List with a fractured finger.

However, the injury was not serious and the shortstop believes he could have played through it and helped his team.

“I mean, I understand,” They want to keep you healthy or whatever,” Segura told the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. “At some points, you can't dictate the future. I don't want to make that decision. I'm ready to go. Give me a chance to go there and find something, not determine, 'Hey, you're going to be out.' That's what I feel right now.”

Segura's attitude is certainly understandable. A lot of athletes try to play through injuries. However, the Brewers have a long season ahead and the safer bet is to rest Segura rather than risk him hurting himself even more.

“He voiced it strongly, and I understand his position and I'm glad he voiced it strongly. I am,” Brewers manager Craig Counsell said. “It makes you like, 'This is a guy we want here.' But it's just too dangerous for him to play. It's dangerous.”
