Royals catcher Salvador Perez was nearly decapitated by a flying bat
In the bottom of the seventh inning in the Royals-Indians game on Monday, Royals first baseman Eric Hosmer took a big cut at a Jeff Manship offering when he lost his grip on the bat.
The bat launched from Hosmer's hands and barrelled toward the Royals dugout where catcher Salvador Perez and two others dove under the dugout railing for shelter.
To my knowledge, MLB's Statcast does not record speeds on loose bats whizzing into dugouts, but anecdotally that's one of the fastest-moving pieces of lumber to take the detour this season.
