Rosenthal: Free agent Zobrist visits Mets; Cardinals out of the mix
Ben Zobrist is a popular free agent, though he could be getting closer to making a decision about his future.
FOX Sports Insider Ken Rosenthal reports Zobrist, who can play multiple positions in the infield and outfield, met with the New York Mets on Wednesday. He also is expected to meet with the San Francisco Giants. In addition, Rosenthal reports the Atlanta Braves came to visit Zobrist and that the St. Louis Cardinals are not in the mix for Zobrist.
Zobrist, 34, hit .284/.364/.453 with seven homers, 16 doubles and 23 RBI in 59 games after being traded from the Oakland A's to the Kansas City Royals this past season. He hit .303/.365/.515 with two homers, eight doubles and six RBI during the postseason with the World Series champion Royals.
