Rockies OF Hawpe placed on 15-day DL

The Colorado Rockies placed All-Star outfielder Brad Hawpe on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a strained left quadriceps.

Hawpe left the opening game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Florida Marlins because of tightness in his left quad.

Hawpe has been bothered by the quad for some time. He was limited to pinch hitting in the final two games of a series against the New York Mets earlier this month.

Manager Jim Tracy said the team was concerned Hawpe might make the injury worse and be sidelined for an extended period if he kept trying to play through it.

``We just felt like it was in our best interest to say, 'Hey, let's shut it down. Let's completely quiet it down and get him back and up running to where we don't have to wonder about it,''' Tracy said after Colorado's 8-4 victory over Florida on Sunday.

The Rockies recalled infielder Eric Young Jr. from Triple-A Colorado Springs to replace Hawpe on the roster.
